What types of worms infect pets?

Hookworms, roundworms, whipworms and tapeworms commonly infect pets. If your pet has roundworms or tapeworms, you can see them in their stool. Otherwise, these internal parasites are undetectable to the naked eye. Without diagnostic testing, there is no way to determine if your pet is infected. A combination of a physical exam and examining your pet’s stool under a microscope helps us diagnose a parasite infection.

How does deworming help?

Our veterinary team will prescribe deworming medication that will remove any internal parasites. We’ll determine which deworming method best suits your furry friend’s needs, which could includes an injection, topical cream or oral treatment. Side effects for the medication are typically mild, with most pets not experiencing any at all. If you notice worms in your pet’s stool for the first few days after their treatment, don’t be alarmed. This means that the medication is working. It should take around a week to stop.

Is deworming safe for my pet?

Deworming medication is safe for your pet and is formulated to only harm parasites. You could notice a few mild side effects but if they’re prolonged, please contact us. These include:
